The Rabin Memorial Peace Soccer Tournament in Conjunction with The Israel Centre, The Peres Peace Centre, Israel & P2G

Wednesday 16 October 2013 saw the convergence of four Jewish and four Arab teenagers participating in a soccer tournament set to propagate the need for peaceful relations and co-existence among Jewish and Arab communities in the Middle East. This Cape Town based initiative, organised by The Israel Centre and Partnership2gether, carried a powerful message that peace and harmonious co-existence are indeed a possibility in the midst of the Middle East crisis.

The initiative was created with the aim of diffusing stereotypes and religious profiling through the medium of sport. In reality these Jewish and Arab girls live in villages merely minutes apart from one another, and yet are only connecting through soccer tournaments of this nature.

These teenage girls are all very enthusiastic members of the Peres Peace Centre’s Sports programme and are anxious to explain how Jews and Arabs can live together peacefully, with sports being a channel to ignite this possibility.
